Into the light

This duplex penthouse is located in a characterful seventies building at the seafront in Duinbergen. The original entrance on the ground floor, with its brown tiles and gently curving walls, reads like an introduction to the top floor apartment. They both have an intimate atmosphere and a palette of contrasting materials.

Entering the apartment feels like walking into a cocoon. The entrance area in the middle of the apartment, has been clad in ebony wall panelling. The eye-catcher is the spiral staircase, which looks like an elegant steel sculpture. Once inside, the dark entrance leads to the bright living quarters, located on either side of the staircase.

The open-plan kitchen and dining area at the rear of the building, has shutters along the width of the apartment. They filter the light and set a private atmosphere. The white kitchen features a marble worktop with rough, exposed edges. The hand-painted oak cabinets recall the style of the local beach cabins.

The sitting area is located at the opposite end, at the front of the building. It has wonderful uninterrupted views of the sea and the dunes. The bright light is softened with warm rugs, weathered leather furniture and various pieces of art from the extensive collection of the home owners.
